Leigh’s School of Dance was established in 1970, and is the longest established dance school in Olathe. Our professional staff has trained and continues to train all over the country. Leigh’s team leads the way with our enthusiasm, creativity, instruction, and commitment.
Our school's dedication to professional dance training has earned us numerous regional, national, and world titles since 1991. Our dancers have competed throughout the Nation, performed on premier Cruise Lines, and performed with professional companies such as Kansas City Ballet, Alvin Ailey Dance Theater, and other traveling dance companies.
Local performances within the Kansas City area have included; Starlight Theater, the Granada Theater, Old Settlers Day, Spirit Festival, Theater in the Park, Crown Center, the Country Club Plaza, and Worlds of Fun. The school also performs in numerous charity events and parades, and their annual spring recital.
Our mission is to provide quality professional dance training to students of all levels. Leigh’s is committed to making dance a positive experience for all dancers. We welcome any person regardless of age, race, height, or weight who wants to experience the joy and art of dance. We are committed to making every dancer feel like a success, no matter what their level.
Leigh’s School of Dance is a place where students are encouraged to make a connection between academic knowledge and physical experience. We encourage our students to think creatively, and help them know that body awareness can create a healthy understanding of their bodies. Our students learn with structured classes that focus on learning correct technique and vocabulary using positive reinforcement and fun. We believe that dance is not only about learning steps. It is about building self-confidence, coordination, self-discipline, team work, and determination in a warm caring family environment. Dance training is something that can be used throughout life; it is an investment in the future of every dancer.
Our Programs
We at Leigh’s cater to every level of dancer. We offer classes for beginners of all ages, intermediate level classes, and advanced classes for competition level students.
Recreational
Our recreational program is designed to be a fun activity for all ages of students. They receive professional training, and end the year by participating in our annual spring show. We believe that every individual who would like to explore the art of dance is welcome. We continue to enhance our program every year so that every dancer feels successful.
We also offer four eight-week courses throughout the year. These classes are designed to be an introduction to dance, for dancers who are unsure of making a commitment for the year. They are designed to be very ‘low pressure’ so students feel welcome and confident.
Competition Program
Leigh’s School of Dance was the first established competition program in Olathe. Leigh’s wants every dancer who would like the experience of being a competitive dancer to be allowed to compete regardless of level. These dancers gain more than just a strong foundation of dance skills, they learn responsibility and form lasting friendships. In this relaxed environment students are encouraged and are not defined by a trophy, but the effort and practice that they put into their performance. Our award winning staff recognizes that students must achieve their goals individually and be encouraged positively without peer pressure.
